Four life convicts released in Mnp
On the occasion of the 70th Republic Day, the sentences of four life convicts were commuted in Manipur on January 26.
A press statement by superintendent of Manipur Central Jail Sunday stated that the four convicts lodged in Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa were released, on the occasion of Republic Day and in pursuance of an order of the State home department.
The four released were Oinam Birachandra Singh (70) of Kakyai Langpok village (Bishnupur district), Wangkhem Jadumani (70) of Lambal village (Imphal West), Narengbam Shyamkumar Singh (70) of Lalambung Makhong (Imphal West) and Thangjam Khomdon alias Khondonlei Singh (70) of Nungbram Awang Leikai (Imphal East).
The 70th Republic Day celebrations, 2019 concluded on Sunday with “Folk Dance Competition and Beating the Retreat ceremony” held at 1st Bn Manipur Rifles parade ground.
State Governor Dr Najma Heptulla, who graced the ceremony as chief guest gave away prizes to winners of parade contingents in different categories.
